Don’t we all seek to become a better human being? How do we learn the skills necessary to have a happy life? Do you think they teach that stuff in school? Did that make you laugh?
How do we wade through all the noise to figure out what skills we truly need to be happy. They say money doesn’t buy happiness. What they are really saying is that happiness comes from within. You can have every ‘thing’ you could possibly want and still be miserable.
To be truly happy, you need to have the correct frame of mind. You need to focus on the inside, not the outside. No thing or person or place can make you happy.
The key is to learn to be an observer of yourself. I guess you would call that learning to be introspective. What motivates your behavior? There are lots of different philosophies that try to help you figure this out.
Can you really be honest with yourself and admit when you behave in a selfish manner. Do you know what motivated you to be snarky to your family member? Was it lust that made you deceitful to the opposite sex? Was it greed that made you stay close to someone you didn’t really enjoy being around? Those are the questions you need to ask yourself when you behave in an unseemly manner.
Of course, it only matters if you are interested in living a happy, content life.
You will know when you can be truly happy when your observing mind can look at your ego and laugh!
