OUR PURPOSE IN LIFE, pt.2

So, if our purpose in life is simply to enjoy the miracle of creation, how do we go about it?  After all, we live with billions of other beings all pursuing the same objective (whether they know it or not).  And, our consciousness inhabits this shell that requires regular doses of resources to thrive.  It’s normal for us to be concerned about our shell.  But it’s not normal to obsess over it.

One vital step is to cultivate the correct frame of mind.  There is that incessant ‘chattering mind’ that is associated with our ‘ego’.  It is the part of us that worries about the past and the future.  While it has its place, the mind we need to cultivate is the ‘observing mind’.  It is more focused on the ‘now’.  Once you understand the nature of time, you come to realize that’s all there really is.  Can you step outside your ego and observe and laugh at how silly your ego sometimes behaves?

Whatever you do, make sure it is the best you can do at that moment.  If you stay focused on the ‘now’ and don’t get too wrapped up in your ego, things will fall into place.

For example, are you in school?  Do your best.  Try your hardest.  Focus on learning as much as you can.  Knowledge of this physical world is critical to your success.

Do you have a job?  It may not be the greatest job, but do your best.  Try your hardest.  You will be rewarded.  You cannot know what opportunities may present themselves to you.

How do you handle your relationships?  Do you get insulted easily?  Are you able to communicate your feelings?  Can you acknowledge the feelings of others?

Something to keep in mind in all your pursuits:

SEEK PERFECTION BUT DON’T INSIST UPON IT! (in yourself and in others)
