The Matrix

We exist in the matrix.  If you didn’t see the movie, it means that we are living a life of illusion.  As I’ve mentioned before we live in a manufactured reality.  We are deluded by our ego to think we are separate from the rest of the perceived physical universe.

But I’m talking about something different.

We live in the manufactured reality of a two party system of government.  You are brainwashed to believe they are polar opposites and whichever side you support, the other side is anti-American.  You can argue with all the ‘buts’ in the world but you miss the forest for the trees.

These days everything seems so unreal.  We appear to be careening towards some kind of disaster.  Everyone can feel it.  Our country seems to be splitting apart.  There is so much hate.  The rest of the world is trying to insulate itself from our erratic behavior.

Currently, we, as a country, are stoking wars all over the planet.  We are alienating our friends as well as our so-called ‘enemies’. We are spending money like there is no tomorrow and we are over 37 trillion dollars in debt. There is more inequality than ever in this country due to our insane monetary policies.  Real wages haven’t grown in forty years and our dollar is worth less and less every year.  The constitution is in shambles.  Our trust in our institutions has been shattered.

A lot of people blame our president, Donald Trump.

I was having coffee with some guys the other day.  And, of course, the topic was the president.  I mentioned that I didn’t see that much difference between the Democrats and Republicans.

One guy felt very strongly that we had to get rid of the president.  Not kill him (although there are those with ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’ who wish for that to happen). He said he was being ‘pragmatic’.  That supporting the Democrats was the only way to move the country forward.  At the time, I didn’t really have a response to his argument but it got me thinking afterwards.

My brain moves at its own speed so it took me awhile to mull things over and figure out how I feel about this state of affairs.

And here are the questions I asked myself:

Would there be less war if Donald Trump wasn’t president?
Would there be less spending and debt if Donald Trump wasn’t president?
Would there be less inequality if Donald Trump wasn’t president?
Would there be less inflation if Donald Trump wasn’t president?
Would there be more trust in our institutions if Donald Trump wasn’t president?

And the answer is a resounding NO!

Oh, sure, there may be less suffering and some trust might return if he is not the president, but there will still be the illusion of the matrix.  And all the problems of the current system will persist.

The fact is these problems didn’t start with Donald Trump.  Donald Trump is not the problem!  Donald Trump is the symptom of a dysfunctional system.  You think the system will be fixed by getting rid of Donald Trump.  But, I say the system is working exactly the way it was designed to work.  It’s just that you have been brainwashed to believe in the lie that the system was designed to benefit you. By supporting the Democrats or Republicans you are still living within the matrix and nothing will change no matter who is the president.

The only way to have real change is to support the total destruction of the matrix, just like in the movie.  It’s a scary thought.  The outcome is unknown.  But morally, it’s the only solution to a more loving, humane world.

How do you do that?  First, by acknowledging the matrix exists.  If you are aware, you can resist supporting it and not expend energy worrying about the things you have no control over.  Then, by knowing what is under your control.  Learn as much as you can about how the matrix works to control you so you can stop supporting the matrix and manage your risks.  Finally, don’t allow all the negative energy into your psyche. Instead, reverse the flow and project love in all your thoughts, words and deeds.
